Motoman Next Robot Uses Wind River Linux

Wind River announced that Yaskawa Electric Corp. is utilizing Wind River Linux to develop its Motoman Next robot, which features autonomous adaptability and AI-enabled decision-making capabilities.
 
By integrating Nvidia’s Jetson Orin modules, partner publication Control reported, the robot can handle complex tasks in unstructured environments, making automation feasible for applications that previously required human-level perception and judgment.
 
Wind River Linux acts as the autonomous control unit operating on Jetson Orin, enabling advanced functionalities such as navigating optimal paths to avoid obstacles and sorting items with varying attributes.
 
This development is particularly significant for automation engineers, as it demonstrates a collaborative effort to enhance machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) in industrial robotics. The combination of Wind River Linux and Nvidia Jetson provides a robust platform for edge AI and robotics applications, offering scalable software and modern AI stacks.
